Will Write for Motivation

So I have a bad case of the blahs and have been procrastinating like a bandit on that revision lately. I've written exactly one scene and a couple of sentences this week and that is IT. I still haven't finished chapter five, even though I'm really close!! I've got pages upon pages left to get through of my Revision Check-list, and even though it's laid out in lovely color-coded order, it all seems like such an overwhelming amount of work and I'm feeling like I'll never get it done and if I do it won't matter anyway. At the same time, of course, I know very well that this novel is Important and might actually be The One and I just can't give up!!!

I clearly need some motivation beyond the someday-maybe-it'll-be-all-shiny-and-published variety. Any suggestions? Threats? Bribery? Horrifying ninja monkeys of doom?

What do you do to stay motivated???

Ugh, if you come up with anything brilliant, let me know! I am the queen of neglected project.

That said, I find that making a list and breaking it down into small steps really does help. Mostly I just like to cross things off of lists.

Crossing things off of lists IS quite inspiring. Maybe I need to make me one of them. :-) Good luck with your projects too, Paige! Thanks for stopping by!

Oh gosh. Yeah. I know how this is! I feel like this a lot ESPECIALLY when it is the most important that I complete the project! I guess you can't rush inspiration. However, you can't always wait around for inspiration either. Hehe! What I would suggest is to take everything one day at a time. It gets overwhelming because you see all that you have to get done, but if you focus on a small portion you can get done just for the day, then eventually day by day it shall get done.

So, you say that you haven't finished Chapter 5, well just focus on Chapter 5 only. Then when you are done with that, focus on Chapter 6 only without thinking about the rest of it. It usually works for me.

Also, whatever you do, don't give up! Hehe! :D

However, if all else fails you can bring in the ninja monkeys of doom, but you never know how that is going to turn out. ;)

Yes, I like to make revision lists, too, but sometimes even my lists feel overwhelming. When I was last freaking out like that, I had to tell myself that I had to do the first item on my list. Then I crossed it out. I moved onto the second. I kept telling myself I didn't have to do everything on the list, just the next thing. Then I got back into it.

Good luck. It's an awful place to be stuck in. Maybe you just need a break, too?

I try to write at the same time every day. That said, I've been failing miserably as summer gets rolling. But next week, my youngest starts his job, so we'll all be up earlier and back on track. My fingers are getting itchy.
